At the beginning of August, we held our two-day mid-year review meeting. But this wasn’t your typical conference room marathon filled with one-way presentations and blinding PowerPoint slides. Instead, we chose a “back-to-basics” approach, which proved to be the key to unlocking deep thinking and setting a clear direction for the future.

Cutting Out the Noise: A Deep Dialogue with Only Pen, Paper, and Ears
For two full days, our meeting space was free from the constant chime of phone notifications and the cold glow of computer screens. Our only tools were pen, paper, and our ears.
This intentionally created “analog” environment forced us to shift from being passive recipients of information to active thinkers and listeners. When the only focus is the blank page in front of you and the voice of your colleague, you can truly immerse yourself in a detailed review of the first half of the year’s work and goals. Without digital distractions, our thinking became more focused and profound, and our conversations more genuine and productive.
More importantly, this process allowed us to clearly see each colleague’s thought process in action—how they analyze problems, structure their logic, and ultimately arrive at solutions. It was more than just a business review; it was a valuable, collaborative meeting of minds.
Looking Forward: Building a Clear Path with the OGSM+ARTC Model
A successful review isn’t just about looking back; it’s about charting the course forward. After thorough reflection, we introduced a powerful strategic planning tool for the second half of the year: the OGSM+ARTC model.
This is more than just a framework; it’s a complete thinking logic that helps us break down high-level objectives into specific, actionable steps.
O (Objective): What is our core mission for the second half of the year?
G (Goals): How will we quantify success? Set specific, measurable targets.
S (Strategies): What key strategies will we use to achieve our goals?
M (Measures): How will we track the effectiveness of our strategies?
A (Action): What are the specific action items?
R (Responsible): Who is responsible for each action?
T (Time): What is the deadline for each action?
C (Check): How will we check and evaluate the results?
Using this logic, we can ensure that every effort is precisely aligned with our ultimate objective, allowing the team to move forward with confidence and clarity.
The Core of the Jaya Working Method: From Thought to Closed-Loop Execution
Great ideas and tools must translate into action. To ensure our plans are implemented effectively, we established a clear requirement that forms the basic principle of what we call the “Jaya Working Method”:
Every team member must use the OGSM+ARTC logic to produce their own implementation plan for the second half of the year. This plan needs to clearly identify problems, formulate strategies, and define concrete action methods.
But it doesn’t end there. The most critical step is to conduct a closed-loop inspection after completion. This means we must continuously track progress, evaluate outcomes, and make adjustments based on feedback. This ensures every plan is seen through to the end, creating a complete cycle of thinking, planning, acting, and reviewing.

Our PowerPoint-free mid-year review brought us back to the essence of critical thinking. It not only helped us reflect deeply on the past but also equipped us with a powerful logical model and a clear execution framework to build a strategic roadmap for the months ahead. Armed with the results of this deep thinking and a meticulous action plan, we are confident that our team is ready to meet future challenges with renewed strength and focus.
