Troubleshooting: Why is My Corner Trimming Motor Hitting the Frame?

In the daily rush of furniture manufacturing, seeing a machine component out of place can be stressful. We recently handled an after-sales service case that is a perfect example of a “false alarm.” We want to share it with you to save you time and worry.

The Scenario: “The Motor has Dropped!” A customer contacted us concerned because the corner trimming motor on their automatic edge banding machine appeared to have fallen. It was resting against the adjacent crossbeam frame. They were worried a mechanical mount had broken.

Corner Trimming Motor Hitting the Frame

The Diagnosis: Check Your Air Pressure Our engineers immediately asked one question: “Did you disconnect the main air hose?”

The answer was yes.

The Solution: This “problem” is actually a normal mechanical behavior. Here is why: The corner trimming (profile tracking) station relies on pneumatic cylinders to hold the motors in their “ready” or “home” position. These cylinders fight gravity.

  1. No Air Pressure: When you disconnect the main air pipe, the system loses pressure. Without air holding it up, the cylinder releases, and the motor naturally descends until it rests on the nearest solid object—in this case, the machine frame.
  2. The Fix: Simply reconnect the main air hose to the machine.
  3. The Result: Once the air pressure reaches the required level (usually 0.6 MPa), the cylinder will re-engage, and the motor will automatically rise back to its correct working position.

Verification After the motor rises, run a standard test piece. You will see that the corner trimming functions perfectly. As long as no unauthorized mechanical adjustments were made while the air was off, the machine is ready to run.

Support You Can Count On At our company, we don’t just sell machines; we provide the technical knowledge to help you run them confidently. We build our machines with logical, standard pneumatic behaviors so troubleshooting is straightforward.
