A CNC Router (like the Zicar CR1325 or CR2030) is a workhorse. It runs for hours at high speeds, creating dust and heat. To ensure your machine lasts for decades and maintains its cutting precision, a regular maintenance schedule is critical.
Here are 5 tips from our technical team to keep your machine running smoothly.
1. Lubricate the Rails and Screws
The linear guide rails and ball screws are the most expensive moving parts to replace. If they run dry, friction will destroy them. Check your manual oil pump daily or ensure your automatic lubrication system is filled with the correct ISO viscosity oil.
2. Keep the Control Box Clean
Wood dust is the enemy of electronics. Fine dust can enter the electrical cabinet and cause short circuits or overheating in the drivers. Use compressed air (at low pressure) to gently blow out the control box and the gantry motors weekly.
3. Monitor the Cooling System
If you are using a water-cooled spindle, always check the water circulation. Never run the spindle without water flowing, as this can seize the bearings in minutes. For air-cooled spindles, ensure the air intake vents are not blocked by sawdust.
4. Collet and Nut Hygiene
A dirty collet causes the tool to run off-center (runout), which breaks bits and ruins the cut finish. Clean the collet and the nut with a specialized cleaner or a brass brush every time you change a tool.
5. Check Belt Tension
Over time, the transmission belts on the X and Y axes can stretch. Loose belts lead to oval circles and inaccurate dimensions. Check the tension monthly and tighten if necessary.
