The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. The festival has a rich history and is known for its vibrant traditions and cultural significance.
Origins:
The Dragon Boat Festival commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar and poet Qu Yuan. According to legend, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River to protest against the corrupt government. The local people raced out in their boats to save him, but unfortunately, they were too late. To prevent fish and evil spirits from eating Qu Yuan’s body, people threw rice dumplings (zongzi) into the river, and this tradition continues today.
